welcome to katzenthal
Nestled about 6km west of Colmar in the Vosges foothills, Katzenthal is a small, tranquil wine-making village that traces its roots all the way back to Roman viticulture in the 1st century BC.

Although harsh battles during the Colmar Pocket in late 1944 devastated some 90 percent of the village, Katzenthal was carefully rebuilt during the 1950s, with key buildings like the St‑Nicolas church restored by 1955.Today the village thrives, sustained by families of wine-growers who have carried on the tradition across multiple generations.

Overlooking the village stands the medieval Château du Wineck, surrounded by the Grand Cru Wineck‑Schlossberg vineyard—a granite terroir producing exquisite Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer. With cellar doors, vineyard walks, and family-run tastings, Katzenthal offers an authentic opportunity to discover Alsace’s flavours and winemaking know-how—far from the tourist crowds.
The village also makes a wonderful base for hikes and runs, with trails winding up to the Wineck castle ruins or the local Galtz monument. Several domaines offer wine-tasting.
